Six easy things you should do to ensure you make progress during boot camp.

1. Show up for your boot camp workouts, even if you are sore. ;)

2.Eliminate Junk food from your home. Throw that crap away!

3. Eat 5-6 times a day / every 2 -3 hours , typically that would look like
Breakfast - Snack - Lunch - Snack - Dinner- Snack

4. Drink plenty of water and eliminate all diet drinks

5. Complement your workouts with a pre and post workout shake, typically that would consist of a protein drink.

6. Don’t binge on junk food on the weekend, it’s ok to reward yourself with ONE “cheat” meal a week but don’t over do it.

7. Bonus! Keep a daily food log, it’s the only way to ensure you are keeping track of when and what you put into your mouth!

When you’re just starting a new fitness program, and that program calls for cardio training, starting it out in the morning can be utterly brutal. It’s a pain staking process, but there are a few tricks to ease the pain:

1. Avoid AM cardio at first - It’s painful as hell, especially if you’re in a deconditioned state. So my suggestion is to put it in the afternoon or at lunch.

2. Make it easy - Schedule it at a time where there won’t be any potential conflicts, and where you won’t have a problem knocking it out.

3. Start slow - You don’t have to start with an hour of jogging. You can easily start with 5-10 minutes and add a minute or 2 each day or every other day.

4. Once you get in the swing of making it part of your daily routine (which should take about a week or 2), move it to the AM when you first wake up. It’ll still likely be a pain at first, but not nearly as painful as it will be if you throw it in first thing in the morning when you’re deconditioned.

It’s inevitable that we all will find ourselves at one point or another with little or no motivation to go to the gym, eat healthy, or even care about losing fat. It’s cyclic, and it’s normal to hit us several times a year.

You know what I’m talking about, it’s when you get the “heck with it, i just want to eat whatever, I don’t feel like doing anything” feeling.

Here are 4 things you can do to get out of the slump:

1) Go to the gym, but lower your intensity. Instead of going 100%, it’s okay to just “go through the motions.” Most of the time when we tire of working out, it’s because our body is telling us we need a break. The goal is to just get to the gym and do a few reps to stay in the habit.

2) Cheat. Sometimes being in the best shape of your life calls for everything to be perfect. 100% intensity in the gym. Eating clean 7-10 days at a time. Hitting cardio every day. Well, it’s time to cut back. Take 1 meal a day, use it as a cheat meal until you get your motivation back. Don’t splurge all day long every day, but do it once a day. Also take 1 day per week, and eat whatever you want that day.

Within a week or so, the “break” will energize you to come back more focused than you were before.

3) If you’re doing cardio everyday. Stop. Drop it down to twice per week. Give your body a break, that’s what it wants.

4) Put a deadline on this “down” period. No longer than 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, start increasing your intensity at the gym. Start taking cheat meals out of your daily food consumption. At week 3, start ramping up your cardio a bit.

By this time your body will have gotten enough rest. You’ll be emotionally charged, and ready to hit it full speed with 110% focus.

Everyone needs a break every now and then. If you add ‘active’ break periods to your life every 6-8 weeks, you’ll less likely fall off the wagon for months or even years at a time, and it’ll be less emotionally & physically draining.

I get a kick out of ads for programs that tell me I’ll lose weight quickly and easily without ever hitting a plateau.

I’m guessing they’ve been snorting a little too much crazy glue…

yes… you can lose weight quickly..

yes… you can lose weight easily…

Yes, you can also barrel through plateaus with ease.

But… to say you’ll never hit a plateau is ridiculous and irresponsible… it’s how our body is designed.

They’re incredibly adaptive.

So, are you gonna tell me that you can follow the program you see on t.v. forever and keep losing fat?

Are you going to tell me that a year worth of workout training programs from xyz celeb trainer will keep you from hitting a fat loss plateau?

Yeah, you can lose some fat with these types of programs…

But you’ll still hit a fat loss plateau.

So will just changing up a few reps and exercises in your program keep you from hitting a sticking point?

No.

Just changing the exercises & workout sequence only puts a temporary bandage on the problem.

Fat Loss plateaus are real.

Breaking through them is TOUGH.

Not knowing how to explode through them without missing a beat will leave you frustrated, confused, and anxious to throw in the towel.

And that’s JUST what these companies want..

They want to leave you just pudgy enough to come back for more.

To buy their next big product.

If you’re gonna burn fat 24/7, 365 days a year and get into the best shape of your life, you better prepare yourself with more than just a handful of “intense” workouts and rep schemes.

Because it takes a hell of a lot more than just throwing around a dumbbell.

The most fit people in the world are the ones who know how to bust through sticking points to constantly burn fat and achieve the body of their dreams.

Have you ever heard anyone complaining about how life is so unfair?

Maybe you’ve said it or thought it yourself before? I know I have.

The past few days I’ve been listening to a cd series about mindset, self improvement, and success.

And one thing the guy talks about in the series is the Unfairness of life. And how it’s a damn good thing life is unfair.

Whoah… What?

That hit me right between the eyes, and immediately captured my attention.

He goes on to say…

“It’s a good thing life IS unfair because if it was “fair”, we’d all be the same. We’d all be attractive and fit. Whatever one person gets, everyone else gets, too.“

Think about it. He’s got a point. How BORING would THAT be?

On the other hand, since life is unfair, the people who decide to take action, and make something of themselves no matter what it may be, will succeed.

And succeed BIG.

All it takes is 1 decision. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a plan yet. All you have to do is take the first step and believe…

Once you do that, success will follow.

Whoah… that’s a radical thought, right?

Here’s looking at it through the eyes of comedian Ron White:

“When Life hands you lemons…. Find someone whose life has given them vodka… and throw a party.”

If you feel Life has been unfair to you. If you find it hard to shed fat. Please, don’t feel sorry for yourself, just take action. And take action BIG.

Because no one else will do it for you.

If life has given you lemons, you can find the vodka right here:

Life is only as unfair as you let it be. Now go get ‘em!

‘til next time, Train Hard & Live Easy!
